MCC International Film Series to Screen ‘Waste Land’
Bedford Campus Center Cafe East, 591 Springs Road.
2/27/2013 1:00 PM
2/27/2013 3:00 PM
Middlesex Community College will feature “Waste Land” as the third installment in the 2012-13 International Film Series, to be screened at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27 (snow date: Thursday, Feb. 28), in MCC’s Bedford Campus Center Café East, 591 Springs Road. Free and open to the public, the program begins with light refreshments, and concludes with a post-screening discussion with MCC Art Department faculty.
“Waste Land” follows Brazilian artist Vic Muniz as he collaborates with the “catadores” – the trash pickers – who work in the world’s largest trash city outside Rio de Janiero. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores using garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage, reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to reimagine their lives.
